Toronto, ONT. -- Hummus is a smooth, savory dip and spread which originated in the Middle East; however, its country of origin is the topic of many debates. The earliest mention of hummus dates back to Egypt in the 13th century. The word hummus is actually Arabic and means chickpeas which are commonly used in many Arabic recipes, including falafels.

What is Hummus?

While the origin of hummus maybe up for debate one thing is very clear, hummus is delicious! Hummus is made from boiled chickpeas which are then mashed, mixed with tahini (a paste made from sesame seeds) and seasoned with lime juice, garlic, salt and cumin.
